Very slow moving showers and thunderstorms will move into our area overnight and Sunday. The potential for flooding will be heightened in southern and eastern Kentucky.
A man who shot himself during a chase down I-75 has died at UK hospital.
Troopers say 62-year-old Alan Mitchell failed to stop when police tried to pull him over near mile marker 110. He led them on a chase, reaching speeds of up to 95 miles per hour, finally pulling over near mile marker 125 in Scott County. Troopers say he then shot himself and continued to try to drive away, hitting the back end of a trooper's patrol car, crossing over 4 lanes of traffic, and finally hitting the barrier wall.
Investigators say it is remarkable nobody else was hurt.
"He could have hit an officer; going across the three lanes of busy I-75... could have hit another car," Trooper Ron Turley said. "It is just really fortunate he didn't hit anything else."
Police found 7.25 pounds of marijuana in his car along with drug paraphernalia. Mitchell was from Florida and was wanted in both Ohio and Florida for drug and traffic charges.
