General showers will be the main action over the next few hours. A few could remain on the strong to severe side in eastern parts of Kentucky.
A large crowd was on hand Monday to celebrate the completion of the new emergency department at UK Hospital in Lexington. The new facility is twice the size of the previous one and is Central and Eastern Kentucky's only Level 1 Trauma Center.
Congressman Ben Chandler, Lexington Mayor Jim Newberry and Senate President David Williams were all there for the opening.
The new facility includes three centers: a pediatric emergency center, the Level 1 Trauma Center and an adult emergency center.
The department includes special way finding touch screens to help guide patients, Wi-Fi in waiting areas, and mobile X-ray carts.
It's an important step in the university's and hospital's goals to become a top 20 institution.
The doors open for patients Wednesday morning at 5.
