Jury selection underway for Karen Sypher trial

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Attorneys have questioned an initial pool
of 46 people as potential jurors in the trial of a woman charged
with trying to extort basketball coach Rick Pitino.
Only two out of the group told U.S. District Judge Charles R.
Simpson III on Monday that they knew Karen Cunagin Sypher from
somewhere other than seeing her in news articles or on television.
How those jurors knew Sypher is unknown. They disclosed the
information during a private conference with the judge.
Along with extortion Sypher, faces charges of retaliating
against a witness and lying to the FBI. Jury selection is expected
to last through Tuesday. Opening statements are set to take place
July 26.
Sypher has pleaded not guilty. She is accused of demanding
college tuition for her children, her house to be paid off and $10
million.
