Court Official Enters Alford Plea To Misconduct Charge

PARIS, Ky. (AP) - State police say a former central Kentucky court official has entered an Alford plea on a misdemeanor count of official misconduct.

The plea last week means Whitney Jones did not admit committing the crime but conceded prosecutors had enough evidence to convict her.

Jones is the former chief deputy in the Bourbon County Circuit Clerks Office. She agreed to a sentence of six months in jail, conditionally discharged for 18 months.

Former Bourbon Circuit Clerk Sherry Rankin was indicted with Jones and was convicted by a jury in July on two counts of official
misconduct.

Kentucky State Police say they began investigating the pair
after receiving allegations that records of ongoing court cases
were being tampered with.
