Berea Residents Face Mandatory Water Alert

Updated: Wed 6:12 PM, Sep 19, 2007

Summer is nearly over, but the drought continues across the state.

So much so, that one Kentucky city has enacted a mandatory all-out water ban.

Berea's new rules are the toughest yet for outdoor watering..

Today, Berea Municipal Utilities issued a mandatory water alert for Berea, the Southern Madison Water District, and the Garrard County Water Association.

All residents are asked to stop all non-essential uses of water, including serving water in restaurants (except by customer request), filling fountains, non-commercial watering of lawns, and non-commercial washing of vehicles.

Violators may face fines, or in some cases, customers may have their water usage reduced, or water access completely terminated.
