ARCADIA, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a 3-foot-tall pet monkey escaped from its cage and terrorized an Indiana family, injuring a boy and a dog.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department says the 8-year-old patas monkey named Eujo escaped from its cage in rural Arcadia about 28 miles north of Indianapolis Wednesday morning. It held its owners at bay until it was coaxed back inside shortly before an animal control officer arrived.
Sheriff's Deputy Vicky Dunbar said a boy in the home suffered a slight cut and a bump on the head, and the 30-pound monkey bit a dog and tore its ear.
Owner Bobbi Phelan says she has kept the monkey in the cage for the last four years because of its increasingly vicious nature.
