Man identified in thefts at Lexington Kroger stores

A crime targeting grocery shoppers appears to have more victims tonight. In February we told you about a man police say stole wallets from shoppers at Lexington Krogers stores. They now know whose responsible. They just need your help finding him.

45-year-old William Rainey is who police are looking for. Earlier this year Lexington Police say he's the man who was caught on camera following a shopper down the aisle in Kroger, watching her every move.

As she reaches in to grab some items he reaches into her pockets taking her wallet.

"He typically hits Kroger stores and he'll target the elderly population and take advantage when they're not paying attention to their purse. After running the story last time through Crime Stoppers we were able to receive information from a Northern Kentucky police department who gave us the name of the suspect," says Det. Eric Hobson with Lexington Police.

In fact, they say William Rainey is wanted for similar crimes in also Jefferson County and Florence. Authorities say he was recently caught on tape again several times at local CVS stores using the stolen cards to purchase gift cards.

"We don't know where he's at. We don't know if he's living in Lexington or in another city, but with the continuity of the crimes occurring in Lexington we believe he may be staying here locally," says Det. Eric Hobson.

While police are looking locally for William Rainey, now warrants have been issued out of Jefferson County.

If you recognize the man in the video and have information, please call Crime Stoppers. That number is 859-253-2020. It's a free call and you could receive a reward if your information leads to an arrest.

Lexington Police say when caught William Rainey will face at least ten felony counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.
