A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is out for for much of northern and eastern Kentucky until 9 p.m. This is just east of the Lexington metro.
A family is mourning the loss of a loved one after a deadly weekend crash in south central Kentucky. The crash happened just after 6:00pm Saturday night at the intersection of Kentucky-501 and Old South Fork Road in Lincoln County.
Maggie Cornett was killed. Cornett's relatives Helen Ryan and 11-year-old, Alex Ryan were flown to UK Hospital, where family members say both are recovering.
Witnesses say a pickup truck crashed into Maggie's truck, sending it over a guard rail, into a tree, and over a cliff.
Police have not released details about the cause of the crash. As Maggie's family members wait to learn more, their main concerns are for Maggie's three young daughters she leaves behind, two of whom will be starting school for the first time this year. "All starting off, kinda hard for them this year with, of course, Mom not being there at school to help them out in that first step, and somebody's going to have to pitch in," relative Tim Cornett said, "Hopefully all the family can get together and do that."
Police have not released the names of the driver or passenger of the other truck involved in the crash. Witnesses say they were taken by ambulance from the scene, but both were conscious and alert.
