Police are investigating a shooting near the Laurel and Whitley County line along Kentucky 312.

The victim was not seriously injured, but police say they do not have any suspects at this time.

Around 10:30 Sunday morning, State Police received a call saying that a man was lying down next to Highway 312 in Laurel County. When troopers arrived, they found a man on the side of the road with a gunshot wound in his forearm.

Police say the man suffered non-life threatening injuries, and was quickly taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin.

"That is shocking and it is really sad," Karen Smith said.

Karen Smith lives a few miles down the road in Whitley County, and brought her grandchildren to play in the lake that is right under where the man was found.

"It's really saddening because it is such a beautiful area and I live near-by. I used to bring my children here, and now I'm bringing my grandchildren," Smith said.

She says for it to happen on a Sunday is even more surprising.

"I've even seen some churches use this area for a baptizing, and now there's a shooting here," Smith said.

She says the kids had fun, but she is not sure when they will be back to the lake.

If you have any information about the shooting, please contact the State Police post in London at 606-878-6622.
