Restaurant stabbing victim dies

Police are searching for two men who they say stabbed two other men at a restaurant. It happened around 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Amigo's Mexican restaurant on Village Drive in Lexington. Witnesses say it all began with an argument and ended with knives being drawn.

One victim, 24-year-old Gustavo Martinez, has died, according to the Fayette County Coroner.

"He loved coming here, " explained Martinez's ex-girlfriend, who did not want to give her name. "It was the only place he loved to go to."

Police say the two suspects got away in black Ford F150 with a black topper. They believe at least one of the suspects may have been stabbed during the fight before they got away since officers found another trail of blood at the scene. Now police say they are keeping tabs on all the emergency rooms to see if that person has come in for help.

Police believe the stabbing wasn't random and say the men had an ongoing problem with each other. They believe Martinez and a friend were inside the restaurant when they got into an argument, possibly over a woman, and when the fight escalated, they took it outside. Witnesses say when officers arrived, Martinez and his friend were lying in the parking lot.

"I knew there was something wrong when I seen his best friend there," Martinez's ex-girlfriend said.

She says the Vera Cruz, Mexico native had been in Lexington for the past 6 years working on a farm.

"I loved him. He'd do anything for anybody."

The other man who was stabbed is now listed in stable condition at the hospital, according to police. The ex-girlfriend says she's hopeful that the suspects will eventually get caught.

"I hope they catch the people who done this to him. He didn't deserve to die."
