CLAY CITY, Ky. (AP) - As death row inmate Ralph Baze awaits decisions on appeals for his life, the quiet eastern Kentucky community shocked by the killings is waiting for his death.
Some say his execution would be the only way to bring peace to Powell County.
Baze has been condemned to death for killing Sheriff Steve Bennett and Deputy Arthur Briscoe in 1991.
The execution, scheduled for next week, was halted by the Kentucky Supreme Court to hear arguments about whether his trial was properly moved from Powell County to Rowan County.
Bennett's widow, Rose Bennett, says she can't move on while Baze
while the execution is on hold.
