Mayor gives his support to renaming street after fallen officer

An effort to rename a Lexington street in honor of a fallen police officer appears to be moving forward.

On Friday, Mayor Jim Newberry said he supports changing the name of Hilo Street to Durman Drive, in honor of Lexington Police Officer Bryan Durman.

Durman died April 29 after being hit by a hit-and-run driver.

The city says Hilo Street is close to the Central Sector Roll Call, and Durman was assigned to the Central Sector.

The city's Address Committee first considered the change at its meeting last week. Its next meeting is August 20.
