LOS ANGELES (WKYT) - A man from Lexington is facing charges after police say he led them on a wild chase in southern California.

The man arrested is James "Blake" Allen, and he is no stranger to controversy. He is the brother of a man who admitted to stealing millions of dollars worth of rare books and art from Transylvania University.

New video shows Blake Allen in an intense situation with California police.

We last spoke with Blake Allen three years ago, when he was promoting the book, "Mr. Pink," the story of the 2004 Transylvania heist. Blake Allen wrote the book with his brother, Chas, who was, at the time, incarcerated for the crime.

Chas Allen was one of the four men who stole millions from the Transylvania special collections library in 2004, tying up and terrorizing a librarian there in the process.

Blake Allen says his brother was, "Just trying to take care of me, and my sister and my mother."

Now, it's Blake who's in trouble with the law. Tuesday, police officers near Malibu say he led them on a 30 minute chase. Then, his SUV ran over a spike strip and Allen got out of the car and advanced towards officers. The entire exchange was caught on camera.

Captain Mike Parker of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says, "He (Allen) continued to advanced toward deputies, ultimately getting to just a few feet away from one of the deputies who was armed and could have fired his gun at him because the suspect got to just within a few feet of him."

WKYT has attempted to call Chas Allen and the men's mother Lynn Allen, but our calls have not been returned.

Deputies ultimately had to use a stun gun on Blake to get him restrained and handcuffed.
