Admitted killer up for parole soon

OWEN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A Kentucky man who admitted to killing his former girlfriend more than two decades ago will soon be up for parole.

Police say the victim, Lawanda Sue Raines, was shot in the head twice in 1989.

In 2001, police say her former boyfriend, Keith Bramblett, confessed to killing her, then led Owen County sheriff's deputies to the place where he hid her body.

Bramblett received a 40 year prison sentence.

Raines' daughter says the Kentucky Parole Board told her Bramblett will be up for parole next month.

"It's just upsetting and heartbreaking that it's only been 12 years and this guy could walk free and just be out in society again," Summer Nickell, the victim's daughter, said.

Raines' sister is now circulating a petition, opposing parole for Bramblett.

Raines' entire family plans to attend his parole hearing.
