After a pleasant day Tuesday, get ready for a big blast of heat

Posted: Mon 1:05 PM, Jun 25, 2012

The cold front is through most of the region and it ended up being more of a wind-shift line than anything else. Most of the Commonwealth remained dry and that could end up being the case for the next several days. Expected highs will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s with more comfortable conditions overnight. Lows will drop to the lower to middle 50s with pleasant weather tomorrow (highs near 80). By the time we hit the end of this week, a ridge of high pressure will dominate bringing temperatures to the middle to upper 90s by Thursday. Some areas could easily reach 100. Some relief is possible by the end of this weekend.

Have a great rest of your Monday.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After a hot weekend, we’ll see high temperatures take a little bit of a break over the next two days. A weak frontal boundary will push southward across Kentucky today. This feature may spark a stray shower or two while bringing partly sunny skies to the area. We definitely could use the rain around here but chances for precipitation will be isolated at best. Highs will reach the middle to upper 80s. Whatever stray shower that develops today will dissipate this evening as the front staggers (and eventually stalls) south of Kentucky. Expect a comfortable night with mostly clear skies and lows in the lower to middle 50s. Tuesday looks to be the pick day of the week weather-wise as high pressure builds into the region. High temperatures will settle on either side of 80 with low humidity throughout the day. As we head toward the end of the week, a strong upper level ridge anchors itself over the region. Temperatures will soar to the middle to upper 90s Thursday through Saturday. In addition, the humidity levels will also be very high and uncomfortable. Conditions stay hot and humid Sunday although a daytime shower may pop-up as the ridge breaks down slightly. Either way, get ready for a heat wave by this weekend. This set-up also keeps precipitation from Tropical Storm Debby away from us. The forecast track for Debby is still uncertain as it is expected to either meander over the eastern Gulf (near the Panhandle of Florida) all week or it may get swept up in the upper flow and head northeast across Florida and off the coast of the Carolinas by week’s end. Either way, Kentucky looks to remain very dry Tuesday through Saturday.

Have a great Monday.
