Amnesty program allows people to pay back taxes without punishment

Updated: Mon 9:06 PM, Oct 01, 2012

FRANKFORT, Ky, (WKYT) - If you owe Kentucky money in back taxes, it's time to pay up.

The state announced a new tax amnesty program in Frankfort on Monday morning. It allows people to pay their back taxes without interest or penalty.

The eligible tax periods for amnesty are between December 1, 2001 and Ocotober 1, 2011.

You have until November 30 to pay without fees or penalties.

Packets with information have been sent to businesses and individuals eligible for the program.

"We're trying to reach as many tax delinquents as possible," says Governor Steve Beshear. "And we're making it as easy as possible to make good on their debt."

A similar program took place ten years ago. 23,000 people participated and the program brought in more than $40 million.
