Convicted felon on the run

ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Extra security procedures were in place Wednesday at a central Kentucky high school after a man ran from sheriff's deputies.

When Mercer County deputies went to a home on Alford Road near the Anderson County line to follow up on a possible probation violation, police say the man they were looking for bolted out the back door.

"He fled from the property out the back and through the woods. We brought in canines. We tracked him for about two and half hours and we lost the scent," says Chief Deputy Scott Elder, with the Mercer County's Sheriff's Office.

Jonathan Earl Johnson is wanted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and fleeing and evading police.

We're told he has a connection to a student at Anderson County High School. The superintendent told us Wednesday that, as a precaution, the school was put on a soft lockdown. The superintendent says classes went on as usual but with an increased police presence around campus.

School dismissed this afternoon without any trouble.

Johnson still has not been found.

"We have learned information from an informant that he was picked up by an individual and left the area in possibly in a red Jeep Cherokee," says Elder.
