Another student assaulted on UK campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The University of Kentucky released crime bulletin this afternoon, informing their students and the public that another assault had taken place on campus.

According to the University of Kentucky Police Department, at approximately 3:20 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, an assault occurred near 460 Hilltop Avenue behind the Kappa Sigma Fraternity House on the University of Kentucky campus. They tell us the victim, a male UK student, was approached from behind by three unknown subjects and reportedly struck in the back of the head and face and chased by the suspects toward the Kirwan-Blanding Complex. The suspects then ran toward Hilltop Avenue.

Police have released a description of the suspect. They say:

Tthe first suspect is described as a thin black male with short hair, approximately 18-20 years old, 5’8” tall, and wearing a black shirt, black shorts and black shoes.

The second suspect is described as a thin black male with short hair, approximately 18-20 years old, 6’2” tall, and wearing a yellow shirt, black pants and black shoes. The third suspect is described as a thin white male, approximately 6’2” tall, and wearing a gray shirt with dark pants.

We're told by police that an unidentified witness told the victim they had observed the three suspects leaving the scene in a blue vehicle.

This most recent assault is the fourth on on UK's campus. On Thursday, there was an assault on Transylvania University's campus.

Police are urging anyone with information to call UK Police at 859-257-8573.

The university wants to urge people, if you see something, to say something. They've released a list of tips on how to stay safe on campus, and ways to get help if you're in an unsafe situation.

•Carry a cell phone to be able to call for help in emergencies.
•Whenever possible, look out for your friends when you go out together; walk together and make sure that everyone gets home safely.
•Request a FREE SAFECATS student safety escort or coordinate after-hours on-demand bus service during the fall and spring semesters by calling (859) 257-SAFE(7233).
•Park in well-lit areas, if available.
•If possible, do not travel alone after dark; walk with a friend or with a group.
•Turn over any requested items (purse, wallet, etc.).
•If you choose to drink, be responsible. Alcohol is never an excuse to hurt another person.
•Make statements with authority – “BACK-OFF! STOP! NO-WAY!” You deserve to be respected.
