LEXINGTON (WKYT) - Arlington elementary school was placed on lockdown just after 4 p.m. Wednesday after reports of shots fired near the school.

Around 30 students and 20 staff members were being dismissed from an after school program and climbing into their cars to head home when they heard what sounded like gunshots. Faculty at the school brought the children and their parents back into the building for safety.

The school was placed on lockdown for about 10 minutes while staff notified police.

When officers arrived they helpped escort the children and their parents back to their cars. After an investigation, police say they found no evidence of a shooting. They have currently cleared the scene.
