Police say the off-duty officer providing security here last night broke up the attack up kept things from getting much worse.
"The officer intervened in the fight, fortunately, because one victim sustained stab wounds as a result of their altercation," said Lt. J.J. Lombardi with Lexington Police.
The off-duty officer noticed the two men, Xavimen Decquir and Anthony Peel, arguing in one of the grocery isles.
Police say the argument turned violent and Decquir stabbed Peel three times, once in both arms and in the chest.
Peel was rushed to UK Hospital and Decquir was taken into custody at the scene.
Even though it was an incident between two men who police say knew each other, it still has some regular shoppers concerned.
"Shocking you know? It's a family oriented store, you wouldn't think anything like that would happen, but, crazy times. Anything can happen," said Darren Barnes, who says he frequents the store several times a week.
"It's a shame you can't even come to the store and shop peacefully without something happening," said Bobbie Mobley.
"I just don't understand how something like that can happen, why anybody would do anything like that," Mobley added.
Police do say this was an isolated incident. They are still looking for a motive for the attack.
At last check, Peel was listed in fair condition.
Decquir is being lodged in the Fayette County Detention Center.
