As flu cases grow, pharmacy sees increase in people wanting vaccine

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - As the number of people with flu increases, it appears more and more people are following the recommendation to get a flu shot.

The Centers For Disease Control said Friday the flu is widespread in 47 states, including Kentucky. California, Mississippi and Hawaii are the only states without widespread flu activity.

Pharmacists at C&C Pharmacy in Lexington say they've been flooded with calls from people who want the flu vaccine.

"It's definitely increased over the last three or four days," says pharmacist Chris Palutis. "We have seen probably triple the amount of people we've seen than in the last thirty days total."

There appears to be a shortage of Tamiflu in some parts of the country, but we're told that is not the case in Kentucky.

Palutis tells us his pharmacy has ordered plenty of flu shots and Tamiflu and that both are readily available here.

The flu vaccine immediately starts building antibodies once it gets in your system, but it can take up to two weeks to become 100% effective.
