Ashburn Police looking for missing Georgia man

ASHBURN, Ga. (WKYT) - The Ashburn Police Department needs the public's help in finding a missing Georgia man. On August 18th, a missing persons report was filed with the Ashburn Police Department. A relative said that they had not seen or heard from 57-year-old Richard Wood since August 15th.

Police say Wood was traveling with a friend through Laurel County during the early morning hours on August 15th and they pulled over to sleep at the Pilot Travel Center on Cumberland Gap Parkway in Corbin. Wood's friend woke up between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. to find that Wood was not in the vehicle.

The friend searched the area and could not find Wood. The friend talked to law enforcement and told them Wood was missing.

Later, Ashburn police found Wood had been arrested by Laurel Co. Sheriff's deputies on August 15th at 5:11 a.m, about 12 miles south of London. Wood was arrested for third degree criminal trespassing. Deputies report that Wood was looking into the window of a home and beating on the side of the home. When deputies spoke with Wood, they say Wood told them he was in Sycamore, Georgia.

Wood was booked into the Laurel County detention facility and eventually released from the facility on August 15th at 4:28 p.m. No one has seen or heard from since then.

Wood is about five foot eight inches and 175 pounds. Wood's relative says that Wood is a diabetic.
