Five-year old boy killed in violent Woodford County crash

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- A five-year old boy is dead and multiple people are injured in a violent crash on US 60 in Woodford County.

Versailles Police received multiple calls in reference to a Volkswagen Jetta traveling the wrong way on US 60 in Woodford County Sunday night around 10 p.m.

But before officers could reach the location, the driver of that car, 26-year-old Alfonso Diaz-Diaz, ran head-on into another passenger car.

Both Diaz-Diaz and his passenger, 22-year-old Roman Gerzacio-Carillo, were taken to UK Hospital for treatment.

Inside the other car was a family of six; 26-year-old Rocky Cohorn and 23-year-old Wendi Cohorn, their son 5-year-old Blake Cohorn, 3-year-old Katlyn Cohorn, and 4 1/2-month-old Landon Cohorn. 26-year-old Danny Cohorn was riding in the back seat of the Chevorlet Lumina.

Police say it appears everyone was buckled up and in proper restraints.

Diaz-Diaz was charged Monday afternoon with one count of Manslaughter in the 2nd Degree, five counts of Assault in the 1st Degree, one of Wanton Endangerment in the 1st Degree, one count of DUI with Aggravating Circumstances, and one count of driving without a license.

Investigators at first told us that charges were a likely possibility.

"Based on what we have so far, what the investigation turned up last night and so far this morning, it's likely that some type of charges are going to be placed. Exactly what they will be, we'll have to wait until we meet with the county attorney and discuss everything that we have with him. Then he'll make the determination of what the appropriate charges are gonna be," said Lt. Dan Clark with the Versailles Police Department.

Neighbors of the Cohorn's were all saddened to hear the news of the family's crash, and the loss of young Blake.

Mike Flynn's grandson played with Blake on a regular basis.

"I told my grandson Blake had been severely injured and killed in a car wreck last night. But not to worry about him because he was in heaven with God. And he was in a better place. And he said well good, I'm glad he's in heaven," said Flynn.

Rocky Cohorn was in surgery at UK Hospital for the majority of Monday morning. Wendi Cohorn is listed in stable condition at UK Hospital.
