Two charged after attempted armed robbery on UK campus

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - WKYT's Sean Evans spoke UK Police Chief Joe Monroe on Tuesday morning.

Chief Monroe says they took four people into custody after the crime. Two of those people were released. 18-year old Tomiaz Layne and a 17-year old were charged with robbery.

"During the course of the interviews with the suspects, we were able to determine that Mr. Layne left the campus area to a location off Bainbridge Drive. We were able to track him down, pick him up, interview him more, and he gave us the location of the weapon off Bainbridge Drive," said Chief Monroe.

These same suspects are being investigated in relation to several shots fired calls that went out after UK's Elite 8 win over the past weekend. Police say they're also investigating if this pair is connected to other recent robberies.

Neither the victim, nor the suspects, were students.
