Audit critical of Jefferson County Clerk's office

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A state auditor's report is critical of how the Jefferson County Clerk's office handled funds for two charities and says staff shouldn't have gotten Christmas bonuses.

The report, which was released Wednesday by State Auditor Adam Edelen, said the $400 bonuses last year are prohibited by the Kentucky Constitution. The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/PaBkCH) reports the audit says the clerk's office had "very little documentation" of funding raised for Crusade for Children and USA Cares Inc.

In a response included in the audit, Holsclaw said previous auditors had not been critical of the practices. She said no charity funding had ever come up missing, and that the $400 payments were proper "incentive pay ... that rewards good work."
