Autopsy scheduled for Saturday on unidentified body

SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - WKYT continues to track the investigation into a body found in a creek.

Investigators found a body in Elkhorn Creek, near Great Crossing Park in Scott County Friday morning. The body they found in the creek is now in Frankfort. The Scott County coroner is hoping to learn more after a detailed examination.

"We've been here all afternoon. We wanted to recover the body in a proper manner so if there is any evidence, if it does turn into a crime scene, that we're able to process that evidence and have it," explained Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton.

Sheriff Hampton isn't yet sure if the creek bed is a crime scene. He is having investigators treat it like one. They stayed out on Elkhorn Creek for hours Friday, recovering the body of a Hispanic man.

"If someone has a loved one missing, again it appears to be a male of Hispanic descent. I cannot give you an age," said Sheriff Hampton.

Right now investigators aren't getting far in their search for the man's family. They're hoping the Scott County coroner can uncover information regarding his identity during Saturday's autopsy.

"Until we can get the autopsy, we'll have a lot more definitive answers at that time, I can't tell you. It's an active death investigation."

The coroner hopes to know a cause of death by Saturday afternoon.
