Baptist Minister’s Sermon: Obama a Muslim, Romney Part of a Cult

BOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) -- A Baptist minister in Boyd County, Kentucky set off a controversy Sunday after a sermon where he called President Obama “a Muslim” and Mitt Romney a member of “a cult.”

Chris Rutledge, Pastor of the Crossroads Baptist Church, said from the pulpit, “Governor Romney and Barack Obama, no matter what they profess, Obama is a Muslim and we know that Romney is Latter Day Saints and that is a cult.”

Rutledge said that he believes the President has steered the White House away from many traditional values.

“You see him promoting the agenda of Islam in many things,” Rutledge said.

He also said Romney’s Mormon faith does not align with the Christian route to heaven.

Local Democratic and Republican leaders criticized Rutledge’s comments.

Rutledge, an independent fundamental Baptist, said he did not endorse either candidate in his sermon. He said that he has his own views but that people need to vote with their faith.
