LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Lawrenceburg Police say Michael Cinnamon tried to get away with a jar of cash that had been donated for a local fundraising drive on Saturday.
The scene of the crime was Cummins Irish Pub, which is your typical Irish bar in Lawrenceburg.
Owner, Star Cummins, says it's also the kind of place where they take care of one another.
When her relative, Bobbie Best, was injured in a freak tractor accident, they all knew what they had to do.
"We all tried to pull together, to raise money for him," said Cummins.
But, they soon found out not everyone at the fundraiser was there for the right reason.
Police arrested Michael Cinnamon early Sunday morning after bar patrons chased him blocks down the street.
They saw him try to run away with a jar of donations meant for Bobby, who's been in the hospital with injuries that could keep him from ever being able to work again as a plumber.
Harry Lee Maddox was one of those who tackled Cinnamon and didn't think twice.
"Everybody here was for Bobby,' he said.
Even though Cinnamon got away with a couple hundred dollars worth of donations, organizers still raised more than $5,000.
They also held a poker run for Bobby, which organizers say they'll continue every year in Lawrenceburg in Bests' name.
