NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Fire destroyed a barn this morning at a well-known horse farm in Jessamine County.
A neighbor called in the fire at Taylor Made Farm around 6:30 this morning. Within minutes farm managers were there. The twelve hundred acre farm has dozens of barns spread across the property.
"We're all very aware of what horses are in what barn and how many horses are in each barn," said general farm manager Tom Hamm.
Knowing the barn was empty employees focused on a neighboring barn to make sure the horses inside of it were safe.
"The employees that showed up there first immediately started turning the horses out in the barn next to that barn to get them out in case the fire moved over," Hamm said.
The barn that was destroyed is primarily used for pregnant mares and young foals. It had been weeks since any horses were inside.
A night watchman was in the barn around 5 a.m., he gave the all clear then.
There was electricity going to the barn but the cause has yet to be determined.
