LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington Police say they have arrested the suspect involved in a standoff situation on Queen Avenue, just off Newtown Pike.

Police first got the call around 4:00 a.m. Monday morning. Lexington police say it started as a domestic situation with the suspect and his girlfriend. She was able to escape the house with three small children.

"A female victim ran out of the house with three children, all under the ages of five. She stated her husband/boyfriend was still inside with a gun and threatened to shoot her if she called police," said Lt. David Biroschik with Lexington Police.

Police spent several hours trying to talk the suspect out of the home. They say he was armed, and three young children remained inside.

"Patrol tried for approximately an hour and fifteen minutes to make contact with the gentleman, there was no luck doing that. So the decision was made to call out the ERU and the negotiators," said Biroschik.

Around 7:30 a.m., police got the suspect out of the home without incident. Police said he was asleep in a back bedroom.

Police have now arrested Emilio Mota. He's charged with assault 4th degree, wanton endangerment 1st and terroristic threatening.
