Berea man killed in crash on dangerous stretch of road

Updated: Mon 12:10 AM, Mar 04, 2013

He was thrown from his car after slamming into a tree.

Police say it happened just after six on Sunday off Richmond Road in Berea when Alan Miller crossed into oncoming traffic and lost control of his car.

The red Ford truck was driven by 64-year-old Alan Miller of Berea.

After crashing into the tree, the truck eventually came to rest at the bottom of an embankment off Richmond Road.

“Witnesses say the vehicle came into the opposite lane of traffic and he had to quickly veer off of the roadway to avoid the collision with the oncoming vehicle,” said Sergeant Jake Reed with the Berea Police Department.

The Madison County Coroner says Miller was most likely not wearing a seat belt when he crashed into the tree and was ejected from his truck.

Collision crews closed down the roads for a few hours Sunday night as they worked to pull the crushed truck from the ditch.

EMS rushed Miller to Saint Joseph in Berea but around 7 p.m., less than an hour after arriving at the hospital, Miller was pronounced dead.

Sergeant Jake Reed says Sunday’s fatal accident stresses just how important it is to always keep your eyes on the road.

“This is an area that we frequently work collisions in. there have been a couple fatal collisions in the same spot since I’ve been working here so it’s a spot where people need to slow down and use caution,” Reed said.
