A heavy rainmaker is set to move into our region later today. The bulk of the heaviest rain is overnight into tomorrow with a Flash Flood Watch in effect.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Gov. Steve Beshear has announced $1 million in funding for a new regional kitchen and senior citizens center in Menifee County.
The second-term Democrat said Monday that the proposed new facility will be the base for distributing food as well as providing educational, recreational and health services.
Beshear said the new building would replace an unsafe regional kitchen that has uneven floors, crumbling walls and inoperable toilets. It also would replace a separate, tiny senior citizens center that has scarce parking and an unreliable air conditioning system.
Funding for the project comes from a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant, $439,000 from the federal Appalachian Regional Commission, and $109,000 from coal severance tax revenue.
