Bielema remembers Stoops

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Mark Stoops of Kentucky and Bret Bielema of Arkansas are new coaches in the SEC in 2013. The two were teammates at Iowa in their playing days and Wednesday at SEC Media Days, Bielema recalled Stoops.

Stoops and Bielema played under Hayden Fry for the Hawkeyes. "What kind of player was Mark Stoops, he was short red-haired and angry," Bielema said. "Stoopsy and I got along very quickly because neither one of us were maybe the most athletic guys on the field."

Stoops didn't know Bielema made the comment until the day after. "No he did not, did he really? I did not see that yet. He does not want me to describe him. I promise you that, so I'm going to refrain from describing him. Ohh boy, that's funny."

Stoops was a defensive back at Iowa and Bielema talked seriously about him. "Mark was a very intelligent player and I think a lot of times he ran the whole show when he was out there. And I distinctly remember a game that he got hurt in and the whole team got quiet, because everybody loved him."
