LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) Even though the Cats didn’t bring home number nine, fans still show they have a lot to cheer about.
The greatest fan base in the nation didn't disappoint when the Cats touched down at the Bluegrass Airport Tuesday.
Cheers and the sound of applause is what greeted the University of Kentucky basketball team as they were welcomed home by the Big Blue Nation after arriving at the airport around 2 p.m.
Hours before the team's plane even touched down, fans of all ages were already lined up--signs in hand--waiting for their Wildcats.
“It’s really exciting to get to see them and even though we lost we still did really good especially for all freshman so it’s really exciting to get to see them,” said one fan who showed up at the airport early.
Tuesday afternoon, fans even got the chance to show their support in person when the players stopped to shake hands and sign autographs for several of the dedicated fans.
“I just fell in love with these boys. They took a lot of slack this whole season and a lot of people gave up on them but I never did,” said another big blue fan. She says her endless dedication never wavered once.
“As a matter of fact, I didn’t even buy a Final Four shirt; I was waiting on my championship shirt.”
But she plans to keep waiting for that shirt because she says the Wildcats are worth the wait.
Even though many fans say that this season was an especially good run, they're now even more excited about what's to come next season.
