LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) -- It's a big honor for the orchestra of a Lexington middle school.
The Edythe J. Hayes Middle School Orchestra has been selected to compete in the National Orchestra Festival, which begins Thursday in Louisville.
Students in the orchestra have been practicing every day, and their instructors tell us it's really paid off.
"The kids are so excited. They are taking it very seriously. They've put in countless hours of extra rehearsals. And they're excited and also very focused," said Sara Francis, the orchestra director.
The Hayes Middle School Orchestra is one of only three middle school orchestras in the country chosen to compete in the festival.
