Bizarre chain of events leads investigators to possible meth lab in Mercer Co.

HARRODSBURG, Ky. (WKYT) - Deputies said a bizarre chain of events led to a house off Highway 1160. In the end, three people were arrested - one for manufacturing methamphetamine, another on an outstanding warrant, and the third for kidnapping.

"You never know. You go to a call of a possible hostage situation which is not common for this area, and then lead to a foot chase, and then lead to a meth lab. You just never know what's going to happen," said Chief Deputy Scott Elder.

It all started around 9:00 this morning when several people called 911 saying there was a man holding another man at gunpoint along the road. When deputies got there, they said the two men tried to hide behind a nearby house.

"The gentleman that was armed with the weapon has a sight impairment and was being led by the other gentleman," said Elder.

Deputies said Mitchell Lake was holding Gary Baxter at gunpoint with a starter pistol after they'd gotten into an argument. They say the two told them they had been at a house down the road where there was a fugitive. Deputies arrested the Lake for kidnapping and Baxter on an outstanding warrant and headed to the house. As they pulled up, they say David Patrick Jones ran from the front door, jumped a fence, and led them on a 3-mile foot chase through cow pastures. He was arrested. Back at the house, deputies removed some suspicious items.

"There's ether, mason jars, coffee filters, cold packs that they used to extract the ammonia from, there's a cattle salt block that we're going to look into. Most of the precursors needed to manufacture methamphetamine," said Elder.

Jones had been charged with fleeing and evading. Now he also faces meth charges.

Deputies say there were two other people in the house. They were not arrested.
