LEXINGTON, Ky (WKYT) - A former corrections officer at a state prison in Lexington has pleaded not guilty to charges she had an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

Police arrested 37-year-old Jennifer Wiseman Wednesday on charges of third degree rape and official misconduct. Police say Wiseman started a sexual relationship with an inmate when she worked at the Blackburn Correctional Facility.

Wiseman entered a not guilty plea during her arraignment in Fayette District Court on Thursday afternoon.

Court documents say investigators recorded sexually explicit conversations between the inmate and Wiseman. The inmate called multiple cellphones to reach Wiseman, including one belonging to her 10-year-old daughter.

Investigators also searched the inmate's cell and found letters describing sexual encounters. The letters had the inmate's sister's name as a return address but investigators say they were from Wiseman.

The Department of Corrections says Wiseman was employed at Blackburn from March 25, 2013 to September 23, 2013 but was dismissed from initial probation at that time. A department spokesperson says the investigation into the alleged misconduct was launched by internal affairs staff at Blackburn Correctional Complex and then turned over to Kentucky State Police for possible criminal charges.

Wiseman bonded out of the Fayette County Detention Center Wednesday night, shortly after her arrest. Court papers say Wiseman's husband is an employee of the Detention Center.
