LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Louisville authorities are investigating the early-morning discovery of a body found inside a burning car.
WAVE-TV reports police were alerted around 1 a.m. EDT Thursday about a car fire in an alley behind a home.
When fire crews put out the fire, they discovered the body and called police.
It's not yet known if the body is a man or a woman, or what started the fire. An autopsy is planned.
Because of overnight rain, investigators moved the car to a secure location to preserve any evidence.
UPDATE: Louisville police say the body found in the trunk of a burning car was that of a woman in her early 30s who preliminary reports indicate died of assault.
The woman's identity hasn't been released, and police say there are no suspects.
