Boil water advisory issued for Garrard Co.

Folks in Garrard County are trying to adjust to a different route -- boiling water before drinking it or using it to cook.

The entire county is under a boil water advisory.

Crews worked overnight, replacing a broken water main on West Buford Street.

Workers aren't sure what caused the break but say it may be weather-related.

The advisory is for all customers of Garrard County Water.

Before you drink the water or use it for cooking, you're advised to boil it for three minutes, something that can be difficult for some businesses.

"We don't have pots and pans, we have to put it in a cambro and stick it in the microwave and boil it, it takes a while actually," said Jessica Welch, manager of the Lancaster Subway.

Like many restaurants in the county, for the next few days, their customers will be served cans or bottles.

Officials at the Garrard County Water Association say they'll begin testing the water Friday. The hope is they can lift this boil water advisory by tomorrow afternon.
