PERRYVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Perryville Police Chief Charles Parks submitted his resignation during Thursday night's city council meeting and before the meeting ended, his officer Larry Nunes quit as well.

Parks says he became chief of the historic Boyle County town six years ago, but the veteran law man called it quits Thursday night.

The mayor says she accepted his abrupt resignation during the Thursday city council meeting, but said she was advised by counsel not to comment further.

Parks says problems had been brewing for several years. He resigned, and his only officer quit as well, saying they don't need the extra stress it places on them. Parks says the mayor wants to micromanage the department, but he says if they were to ask him to return he would consider it.

The Boyle county sheriff says his office will assist Perryville in whatever way they can.

The city council was expected to call a special meeting to discuss the police department within the next several days.
