Broken siren fixed in time for stormy afternoon

Updated: Thu 7:53 PM, Jul 19, 2012

Workers made sure to get a broken weather warning siren working before storms rolled through on Thursday afternoon.

The siren in Corbin alerts around 4,000 people when the weather turns bad. A recent lightning strike took it out of service for a little while.

Officials say the warning system important, especially in the wake of the tornado outbreak in Kentucky on March 2.

"Due to storms, possible tornados just like we had in London and different places getting hit, citizens need to be warned," says Corbin City Manager Marlon Sams.

In all, Corbin has a 8 sirens to warn people of severe weather.
