PULASKI COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -- It was an accidental shooting that took a tragic turn, leaving two southern Kentucky brothers dead.
Kody and Kyle Thacker were two brothers who had their whole lives ahead of them; but an early morning accident changed all of that.
“I was in shock. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing through my front door. I saw a lot of ambulances at the residence,” a neighbor said.
The neighbor, who did not wish to give their name, lives a stone's throw away from the home where the incident happened in the Slate Branch Community of Pulaski County.
Investigators say 24-year-old Kyle was asleep on a living room recliner when 19-year-old Kody, on a nearby couch, picked up a 12-gauge shot gun, which accidently discharged.
Deputies say the brothers spent the night at their friend’s house on Friday night.
On Saturday morning-- tragedy struck.
It was around 9:30 a.m. when Kody accidently shot his brother in the head and then, in grief, turned the gun on himself.
Deputies say when Kody realized he had shot his brother, he became distraught and took his own life.
“It’s tragic because I’ve known these families all my life and I grew up with them. I feel sorry for the family of the two that this happened to,” the neighbor said.
Neighbors say their hearts goes out to the family who now has to deal with losing two loved ones in one day.
Pulaski County sheriff's deputies do not suspect any foul play was involved.
