Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Breathitt, Estill, Floyd, Johnson, Lee, Magoffin, Morgan and Powell County in KY until 4:15pm EDT.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say three burglars broke into a Lexington gas station not once, but twice, within an hour.
It happened at the BP gas station on Bryan Station Road before it opened. Surveillance video from the store shows three people wearing masks and hoodies take the glass out of the front door and climb in.
The first time was just after 4:00 Thursday morning; the second was just before 5:00 a.m. Both times the three stole packs of cigarettes. But the second time, they set off a motion sensor which then sent an alert to police.
Officers say because these three people carefully took out the glass from the door, it leads them to believe these were no amateurs.
"It does indicate that they did have a little bit more knowledge with what they were doing. Three people all went through the effort to put masks on. So this was less of a random event. These guys put a little bit of thought into today's crime," says Lt. Chris Van Brackel, Lexington police.
If you have any information about this incident, or recognize the people in the surveillance video, contact Lexington Police.
Police are not sure whether this burglary is connected to any others that have happened in the area recently.
