Burglars looking for one man, attack wrong person in Richmond

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - Police arrested one man in connection to an attack and attempted burglary at a Richmond home.

On July 20th, at approximately 12:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 200 block of Keystone Drive for a reported burglary.

The victims, a man and woman, told police that they were watching a movie in the garage, with the door partially open, when two men entered the garage. They grabbed the man and hit him in the head with an unknown object. At that point, they tried to get inside the home.

The man was able to block their path and the two men took off after learning that the woman was calling the police.

Police later determined that the two suspects were in search of another man, who they believed to be at the residence.

At around 1:00 a.m. the next day, Richmond Police were again dispatched to the 200 block of Keystone Drive, but to a different apartment. The people inside said that two men were beating on the door and threatening them.

Officers located and detained 22-year old Justin T. Smith at the scene. The other suspect was not found.

Police say that Smith was one of the suspects who had entered the garage and assaulted the man on the day before.

Smith is charged with burglary and harassment.

Police are still in search of the second suspect. He was described as a white male with dark hair, 5'10" to 6'0", 200 to 240 pounds, in his late 20s to early 30s.
