LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A group of marina owners who are worried a new proposed marina site on Lake Cumberland could further hurt their business are asking a federal judge to block the proposal.
They say a new marina on the south central Kentucky lake is not needed. Existing marinas have had declining business since water levels were lowered in 2007 to ease pressure on Lake Cumberland's ailing Wolf Creek Dam. The Lake Cumberland Association sued the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers this week. They say new marinas aren't needed until the lake level is restored.
The suit says five marinas have closed and the lake has 1,000 vacant boat slips.
The Corps has said a failure of the dam could cause flooding along the Cumberland River all the way to Nashville, Tenn.
