Cal calls Wiltjer "an animal", says guys need to sit

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The Kentucky Wildcats return home to face LSU Saturday and coach John Calipari continues to call for players to buy in. Kyle Wiltjer is one who has.

Wiltjer has picked up his play over the last three games and is playing better than he has all season. "Pushing myself harder than I thought I could push myself, if that makes sense. Pushing through and trying to lead the guys in practice. Almost practicing harder than I would playing a game, just to make it easier.

Calipari called Wiltjer "an animal" on the practice court. "Screaming on dunks, sprinting up and down the floor, blocking out, going in and grabbing rebounds in traffic, he's an animal."

Kentucky slipped to 12-6, 3-2 in the SEC with Tuesday's loss at Alabama. Calipari said freshman Willie Cauley-Stein did not practice Thursday, his status for LSU is uncertain.

The Wildcats are playing with a short bench but Calipari said some players need to sit. "We need some guys to sit right now, there's some guys that should not be playing but four or five minutes that are playing 30. They really don't deserve to be on the court but where we are right now, they've got to be out there. Or, ya know, we've got to sit them and take the consequences, which is the next step."

Pregame coverage for Kentucky-LSU will begin at 3:00p.m. on WKYT, the game will tipoff at 4:00 p.m. Post game coverage will immediatley follow with WIldcat Wrapup.
