LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK coach John Calipari says he's scrimmaging more than he ever has in practice and he's keeping stats. Calipari wants his players to know where they stand.

Following Tuesday's Blue-White Scrimmage in Rupp Arena, Calipari said his players are sent the numbers on their I-pads. "The reason is you've got to be held accountable. The stats indict you, now the film convicts you but the stats indict you."
It all comes down to competition and sophomore Willie Cauley-Stein admitted he's in a battle with freshman Dakari Johnson. "You see what I have to battle with. I mean Dakari's a big body and he's a really good player, so to see his stats compared to my stats, it really shows you how much work and what you have to work on."
Unlike last season, Calipari has a competitive situation in practice and that's the way he wants it. "All of a sudden Dakari gets 26 and 18 and your'e playing the same position as him. You start thinking, 'I've got a little problem here.' Yeah you do. So we're trying to chart and make sure we keep these guys hungry and competitive."
Kentucky plays its first exhibition game against Transylvania Friday night with tipoff at 7:00 p.m. Pregame coverage on WKYT will begin at 6:30 p.m.
