LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - UK Coach John Calipari said after the game he played players too many minutes. He said it again Monday as his team prepared to play Boise State Tuesday night.
"You get into the game and the heat of the game and you forget." said Calipari. "There are times I forget guys are on the bench and I look down and I go 'what are you doing?' get in."
Friday night in AT&T Stadium, Kentucky let a nine point lead get away with just over 13 minutes to play and lost to Baylor 67-62. Wishing he went to his bench, Calipari said it happens. "Sometimes it's the flow of the game and you're just trying to get out of the game which is what happened there too."
Prior to Monday's practice, freshman guard James Young, who missed two critical free throws down the stretch, said he was surprised by what happened. "It's kind of surprising but we just didn't play to our full potential and that's what can happen if we don't come to our full game."
Calipari told his players after the game he didn't play enough people. "We get up, we're ready to blow them out, I don't want to make changes, i wanted to keep going."
Boise State comes into Rupp Arena unranked but 8-0 on the season. the game will tipoff at 9:00 p.m. on ESPN.
