Calipari wants Wiltjer to step up

Updated: Thu 6:42 PM, Nov 15, 2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - John Calipari is looking for sophomore forward Kyle Wiltjer to step up. Wiltjer scored 19 points in Kentucky's season opening victory over Maryland. Tuesday's showdown with Duke in the State Farm Champions Classic was a step back.

Wiltjer took only five shots against Duke, hitting two. Calipari said Maryland's staff asked what happened to him? "Well he didn't play as hard, he didn't compete like he did against Maryland."

Calipari said Wiltjer must find shots or he'll be on the court less. "Part of it is we can't expect our team to find him shots. We're freshmen, we're not going to do that."

Wiltjer said Duke did a good job guarding him on the 3-point line and therefore he'll need to adjust. "In the future, just make stronger and quicker moves in the post. When they're playing me out there just getting involved, rather than just shooting threes."
