LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Police say a driver has fled after crashing their car into a Lexington business.

The crash caused a lot of damage to the South Hill Gallery on Versailles Road.

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, Police noticed a car was driving recklessly.

A traffic stop was attempted, but the driver tried to evade police.

The attempt to stop the car was canceled because it was too dangerous. A few moments later the car hit the business.

The driver left the scene. A young dog was in the car and police say that the dog was injured. It was taken to the Humane Society. Felony charges could follow for the dog's injuries.

"It appears from skid marks in the road. That he may have tried to avoid a vehicle in the roadway and tried to make a turn but wasn't able to and ended up in building," Lt. Eddie Hart, of the Lexington Police Department, says.

Officials say alcohol may have been a factor.

Police recovered the drivers wallet, cell phones, and ID.
